Luis Gastón Soublette Amussen nació en Antofagasta en 1927.
Trasladado tempranamente a Viña del Mar, se educó en el Colegio de los Sagrados Corazones de Valparaíso. Siguió estudios de Arquitectura y Derecho en la Universidad de Chile. Viajó a Francia, donde estudió música en el Conservatorio de París. Se casó con Bernadette de Saint Luc, con quien tuvo tres hijos: Violaine, Francisco e Isabelle.
