Stefano Mencherini, giornalista e regista Rai, è autore del documentario "Mare Nostrum", uno dei pochissimi - e certo tra i più analitici - documenti filmati sui centri di accoglienza temporanea. In pochissimi, però, hanno avuto la possibilità di vedere il filmato, che è stato rifiutato da quasi tutte le emittenti italiane. Innumerevoli anche gli episodi di vera e propria censura di cui il documentario e il suo autore sono stati oggetto allo scopo di impedire proiezioni pubbliche.
