Le hanno sparato prima al cuore e poi alla testa all'ingresso di casa sua alla periferia di Mosca.Figlia di diplomatici ucraini, Anna per vent'anni ha seguito con passione e coraggio il conflitto ceceno.Impegnata nella denuncia delle violazioni commesse dal governo di Mosca, nel 2001 ha vinto il Global Award di Amnesty International
per il giornalismo in difesa dei diritti umani e un anno dopo accetta il ruolo di negoziatrice durante l'assedio del teatro Dubrovka di Mosca.
