The painted desert

The painted desert (1931 in film) is a film released by RKO Radio Pictures, produced by E. B. Derr, it was directed by Howard Higgin, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Tom Buckingham. It starred low-budget Western (genre) stars William Boyd (actor) (in his pre-Hopalong Cassidy days) and Helen Twelvetrees, and featured a young Clark Gable in his sound film debut. The picture was shot mostly on location in Arizona.

The paleface

Buster Keaton stars in this comedy as the captive of hostile Indians. His captors tie him to a stake and prepare him for death by fire. Keaton moves with the stake as the Indians try frantically to place the firewood around him. When he survives the flames due to his fire-resistant clothes, Keaton is made a member of the tribe and named Little Chief Paleface. He then foils the scheme of unsavory oil speculators to steal the land from his Indian companion

Charlie Chaplin's 56th Film The Pawnshop was Charlie Chaplin's sixth film for Mutual Film Company. Chaplin played the role of assistant to the pawnshop owner. Henry Bergman played the owner and Edna Purviance the owner's daughter. Albert Austin played an alarm clock owner who watches Charlie in dismay as he checks out the clock. This was one of Chaplin's more popular Mutual Films, mainly for the slapstick comedy he was famous for at the time

The Phantom express

An engineer at the throttle of a locomotive speeding through a tunnel sees the lights of a train approaching from the other end. Although the signals say the track is clear, he still sees the train's lights. He grinds the train to a halt, derailing it. He survives, but many passengers are killed. He is fired in disgrace, but sets out to prove his innocence by finding the "phantom express."
